The sound of music flowed through the AGS Communio Church last week as our vocal scholars and choirs took part in
the Nelspruit Eisteddfod.
On the vocal front our scholars took centre stage in solo categories and showcased their beautiful voices in front of
adjudicator, Magdalene Minnaar. Dressed to impress, the scholars performed their items with confidence and grace.
Our youngest vocalists from Grade 2, Jasmine Loram, Eva Reed and Gemma Goelst, showed just how special it is to
enjoy music from a very young age. Well done on your lovely songs girls. Cameron Meyer’s rendition of Michael
Jackson’s ‘Ben’ was heart-warming and beautifully performed. Another Michael Jackson piece performed by Tendai
Nkambule, wowed the crowds. His lively and energetic performance of ‘Man in the mirror’ was truly special.
A highlight was the Light Music Competitive program for prep girls. Our Grade 7 girls really made Penryn proud with
strong vocal performances. They each had to present two contrasting pieces in order to showcase their vocal ability.
Nozipho Ncube performed ‘If I was your man’ and “You are the reason’. Third place went to Nikiwe Nkuna for her
performances of “Tattooed `Heart & “If I ain’t got you’. McKenzi Meyer took second place with her powerful vocal
renditions of ‘Creep’ and ‘Ironic’. Overall winner and gold medal went to Tessi Ratnarajah who gave an outstanding
performance (self-accompanied on guitar) of ‘Bubbly” as well as her second item, ‘Titanium’, performed to a backing
track. Well done girls.
Congratulations to each and every one of our vocal scholars on your results as well as for all the hard work and practice
leading up to the Eisteddfod.
Our Junior and Senior choirs also got to showcase their talents as they performed their Eisteddfod programs in front of
renowned adjudicator, Richard Cock. The junior choir performed alongside Nelspruit Primary, Laerskool Laeveld,
Laerskool Nelspruit. They received an awesome ‘A’ for their lively performance of “Build me up, Buttercup’, ‘Firework’
and Imagine Dragon’s ‘Best day of my life’.
The Senior Prep choir performed alongside Uplands, Lydenburg, Riverview Primary, Piet Retief Primary and Nelspruit
Primary. They were complimented on their French piece ‘Street boys chorus- from Carmen’ as well as for their colourful
and creative outfit, paying tribute to the South African flag. The seniors also achieved a fabulous ‘A’. We are very
proud of our two choirs, well done.
