The whole school sports model at Penryn is grounded in science, and based on the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model.
Sport at Penryn is offered to enable scholars to develop an “Active for Life” mindset, where emphasis is on an appreciation and enjoyment of sport and physical activity and the benefits thereof, not just throughout their school careers, but long thereafter.
Our approach to sport is in line with Penryn’s central belief that education is concerned with the holistic development of each individual. We believe that every scholar has the capacity to achieve something worthwhile and the ability to excel in some aspect of sporting endeavour, be it from provincial or national representation to the achievement of a personal goal.
One of the main objectives of the sports programme, therefore, is to identify and develop skill in every scholar, while ensuring that they understand the health and social benefits that accrue through participation in physical activities. Emphasis is also laid on the correlation between sport and other areas of the scholar’s life where team spirit, co-operation, effective communication and positive mental mind-sets are important. We encourage competition and “The Will to Win” (rather than “Winning” as an end in itself), and organise regular sporting fixtures against other schools.
